Writing is not something I always had a passion for. It was something I loathed while working my way through school along with having to getting up in front of others to speak. These fears almost kept me from doing what has helped me move on from several hardships.
I’ve always been someone who tries to do the things I say I’m going to do. This can be difficult and putting together a book was quite a challenge. I came up with a penname to use for my writing which will be explained in my next book and set up my own business called Julie Bellatrix LLC.
The pandemic has had an impact on all our lives in many ways. I had become distant while starting a new chapter in my life. When I was finally ready to reconnect with friends and family, things started to shut down and we were stuck at home. I’ve also always found enjoyment in watching sports, so when that was also paused, I decided it was time to truly start processing my trauma.
I was having a difficult time trying to explain what I endured. Surely someone needed to be responsible as well, and I was hoping by telling my story there would be some closure. Writing Love, Lies and Fight definitely made healing a little easier. Having to rework chapters and listen to my story while proofreading chapters brought back memories.
I have also seen that I am not alone in wanting to get a story out there. I’ve gotten quite a few people who have asked me how to do this as well. I cannot thank Author Terri D enough for helping to guide me through this whole process. Rather than her tell my story, she encouraged me to work together on our novel.
It was truly a learning experience and I’ve enjoyed meeting many people along the way at various events. While our book is based on my actual experience, we had a great time turning it into a fictional piece of work.
My passion for helping people is what drives me to continue with my next book which is hopefully coming out soon called Recharge and Live Large.
Besides writing, my experience as a Counselor Advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking at Centre Safe has been so rewarding. Going through the training which included material from national organizations including becoming trauma informed has helped me become a volunteer for this tremendous organization.
I would highly recommend reaching out to any of your local agencies with a similar vision. It has been life changing, and I cannot express how much it means to those you can help at possibly the roughest times in their life.
My books are meant to be conversation starters, so I encourage people to reach out. Try to be present in the moment instead of getting stressed about the past or future. Take one day at a time. It is important to have people in our lives who provide encouragement and lift our spirits when we feel down. Patience and faith in God can also help get past obstacles in our way.
